The Attack on Pearl Harbor

December 4-11, 2008

On this tour we spent four days exploring sites including Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield, the site of the Opana Radar Station, the USS Missouri, and the National Cemetery at the Punchbowl.  On the morning of December 7th, we attended the poignant ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial marking the 67th anniversary of the attack.  We enjoyed lunch with a Pearl Harbor Survivor at the Japanese tea house where Japanese spy Yoshikawa gathered intelligence. Some participants chose to take an optional scenic flight which followed the flight pattern the Japanese Zeros flew over Oahu that fateful morning. The tour ended with two days on the Big Island of Hawaii where we explored the eerie lava fields of Volcanoes National Park and several ancient Hawaiian sites.

Here are some of the comments we received from participants on our 2008 trip....

"10 - We left with a thorough grounding in Pearl Harbor, Oahu & Dec 7 history. Made us so proud of our country.  Ed:  A+;  Marty: A+: thinks of everything; always in a good humor. Has great rapport with the big guy."             – Kay Park

"9.5 – Ed is incredibly knowledgeable. I especially liked his personal stories. On a scale of 1-10 Ed is a 20+.  Marty is a 20+.  They made a great team!  Damian (local resident/guest) and the bus drivers added some wonderful local color."

–Barbara Stuecker

"10 – It was all and everything that I wanted to experience about Pearl Harbor. Ed was outstanding as always and the group was wonderful; they felt like family. Marty was outstanding. I have taken many tours and Marty is the most organized and helpful tour director. The Pearl Harbor ceremony was the highlight."

– Nancy Wellman

"10- The December 7 memorial service was something I'll never forget--thanks! Seeing those sailors on the ship at the end was very impressive; as well as talking/seeing the WWII veterans." --Kay Carnahan

"10- Ed is superb. I've known Ed for 23 years and he never disappoints his tour groups. Marty was great. She is very sensitive to the needs of the tour participants. Great sense of humor too. Marty doesn't get rattled."

– Carolyn Quadarella & Paul Kallina

"10- Tour exceeded expectations. It provided an excellent overview of much of Hawaiian geography and culture in addition to the Pearl Harbor attack. Extra thoughtful touches (leis and macadamia nuts, etc.) were very much appreciated."                                                                            --Bob & Barbara Hardy

"10- The tour was a 10. I enjoy the personal attention Marty and Ed give."
