This May, our popular State Series continued with a fun journey through the Wild West on our new tour of The Dakotas. We explored both South and North Dakotas, uncovering the unique history, landscapes, and spirit of each. In North Dakota, highlights included Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Fort Mandan, and Fort Abraham Lincoln. In South Dakota we visited Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, took a wildlife jeep safari in Custer State Park, toured The Mammoth Site, and stepped back in time in the legendary Wild West town of Deadwood. We also made a memorable stop at Devils Tower in Wyoming - a truly awe-inspiring natural wonder.
Next month, we journey to Northern England & Wales, Sept 19-October 1, 2025 (click here) Highlights will include: Windsor Castle, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Snowdonia National Park in Wales, the Lakes District, Hadrian's Wall, York Minster, and the Yorkshire countryside.
OUR 2026 TOUR SCHEDULE
We are pleased to announce our 2026 Tour Schedule.
On the drawing board for July/August 2026 is an exciting idea: partnering with Road Scholar to offer a private tour of the Canadian Rockies, exclusively for South Mountain Expeditions travelers. The 8-day itinerary explores the breathtaking landscapes of Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper National Parks, beginning and ending in Calgary. There will also be optional extensions - including extra nights in Calgary and/or a ride aboard the scenic Rocky Mountaineer Railway to Vancouver. Details for this program are forthcoming!
October 2026: What may likely be the final tour for South Mountain Expeditons - yes, Marty Gane plans to retire in 2027! - is a New England Sampler. Beginning and ending in Boston, this tour will take us through charming corners of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Highlights include Martha's Vineyard; the opulent mansions of Newport, Rhode Island; Sturbridge Village, MA; the historic homes of Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe in Hartford, CT; Mystic Seaport; the Submarine Museum in Groton; and Lowell National Historic Park.
